eyes light up
hearts sing
smiles spread
and happiness rings.

but then heartbeats pound
smiles fade
tears fall
as we pretend it's all okay.

then our souls ignite
smiles crack
hearts bloom
and the feeling's back.

but it's short-lived
and doesn't last too long
and we're left here to wonder
what went wrong.
